Whatever your EMR system should NOT do

Like any other program out there, the electronic medical record systems, while extremely useful also have the potential to be a major obstacle at times. There are many ways that software can be a bottleneck.

One of the most common in some EMR Software can become complicated is that it is designed so that the user boxes rigid templates with any other option in the system. In this case the predefined templates can only be changed by the vendor or IT staff.

Fortunately these days there is a growing number of solutions which are completely free EMR templates. Instead, rely on a system called CC or "Chief Complaint." Because the system is driven by "reasons of consultation" that allows the physician to enter data at the speed of thought without being hindered by some staff who have to laboriously go through from beginning to end.

However this does not mean that the templates are completely useless. Nothing could be further from the truth. What doctors should do is to look for EMR software that offers DC-driven applications, but also has the option templates. The templates are indispensable when it comes to certain repetitive procedures in the clinic.

The other thing that its Stimulus EMR system should NOT do is rigidly adhere to only scan and attach documents when it comes to managing documents and images. Instead the system must provide a flexible management system that lets you record any of the documents copied into the database or link without copying files.

Another very important thing EMR software should NOT do is not enough to meet all regulatory requirements and compliance. In fact no two ways about it. You realize that if it does fall short in this area, time and resources must be diverted to ensure that regulations are met somehow out of your system. This is both time consuming and cumbersome.
