Hospital EMR / EHR-Grants that are right for your practice?

With the stimulus money on the table and the provision allowing Stark hospitals and laboratories to cover most costs associated with purchasing and implementing an EHR Software solution, there are many doctors who are being pushed to the programs that may or may not may work best for your practice.

It's a great concept and measurement of cost savings for hospitals to cover the cost of an expense, but doctors EMR is the best reality for the physician. This is only determined by conducting a thoughtful review of the offer being made by the hospital.

Here are some basic things to look closely to determine whether or not to go with the solution package offered by the hospital.

Training & Support
Training and support during and after the implementation process are as important as the product itself. Without proper training, you will find yourself frustrated and disillusioned about the EMR program and what he has done to his office. You may even find yourself that you trade your old paper system appeared to be much more productive. Some hospitals cover the cost of training with the vendor or others will have a specialist in internal application to help your office. Either way is fine, but make sure you understand the amount of time your practice will receive. You should also make sure it is unclear how the support will be handled after the initial deployment and who will pay for it. Training in use is significant also a vital part of the implementation process and should be an integral part of any training.

IT infrastructure and bandwidth
Many doctors find that the hospital system does not have the same protection or service provider EMR Software. It is important to understand the systems and network rather than in the hospital before marrying her.

Here are some questions to ask: How often is my data backup? Are there redundant systems in place if the server crashes? How old is the server? Do I have adequate bandwidth to perform daily activities? Do I need to upgrade your hardware, if so, who will pay for it? Who will cover hardware and software maintenance?

Clinical Templates
EHR EMR Many programs come with clinical pre-loaded templates, but most require customization to suit each physician. It is important to discuss if the seller EMR will help physicians with the creation of these templates or if the doctor is on his own. This is a time consuming process and many hospitals do not recognize it as such and therefore do not help pay for it. Ask the administrator of the program if it is assistance in this area and that is coming.
