EMR Software - How to evaluate

EMR software is not new technology. It's been around for several years. Medical practice EMR use software to help keep records and organize the operations of the practice. However, for some reason, there are practices that have yet to take advantage of this technology.

In short, this is what an EMR can do for medical practice

- Instant Messaging in the office. - Email Management. - Laboratory management. - Prescription management. - The appointments and reminders. - Problem list. - Database search. - Clinical reports. - And much more!

As you can see, the majority of support functions to manage the operations of the practice. Every task and every little bit will be recorded by the EMR. As medical practice grows, so do the records of patients. It is hard to imagine a practice that has no proper system to help manage workflow and processes such as growth continues.

It is obvious that without the EMR software, serious problems over time begin to emerge. First, searching through the records become more and more difficult. Communications between staff also becomes more difficult, especially when the physical office space begins to grow, and more staff employed.

This is inevitable. More work means more people are needed to share the workload. But employing more staff does not solve all problems. The practice will then have to deal with staff turnover. Surely, you do not want to lose good staff just because you do not have a proper system in place to help make your job easier. If someone begins to compare the work environment, and adequate clinical and EMR software and yours does not, where do you think you prefer to work less?

Having established that the EMR Software is critical to your practice, let's see how to evaluate the software on the market.

The ease of integration.

Integration has always been a major problem for IT vendors. It is very difficult to find software solutions that can be integrated with other software. For example, you may or may not be able to integrate the EMR software to their e-mail or instant messages. That makes it difficult for you to set an all in one single system. Without integration, you need to launch a software for a task, and other software for other tasks. This can lead to complications, which is not what you want. Simplicity would be a much better option.

Availability of training.

EMR software you are evaluating should be easy to use. That means that anyone, even those without technical expertise, should be able to learn to use the software without problems. To make a smooth transition from manual to automated, adequate training must remain forever.

After sales support.

It is unrealistic to expect staff to know everything about the software after undergoing training. Problems may still arise while using the software. Therefore, it is important to have an excellent after sales service.
